USLIFE CORPORATION ELECTS GORDON E. CROSBY, JR., CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, TO ADDITIONAL POST AS PRESIDENT; WILLIAM A. SIMPSON TO PRESIDENT-CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF LIFE INSURANCE DIVISION

 NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- USLIFE Corporation (NYSE: USH) today announced that Gordon E. Crosby, Jr., chairman of the board and chief executive officer, has been elected to the additional post of president, and William A. Simpson, CLU, has been elected to president-chief operating officer of its Life Insurance Division. The division is comprised of All American Life Insurance Company, The United States Life Insurance Company, The Old Line Life Insurance Company of America and the USLIFE Credit Life Insurance Group, all wholly owned subsidiaries of USLIFE Corporation.
 Mr. Crosby will continue to serve as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of USLIFE Corporation, as well as chairman of the board of all of the wholly owned subsidiaries of the Corporation.
 Mr. Simpson is a member of the board of directors of USLIFE Corporation and a member of the Office of the Chairman which is also comprised of Mr. Crosby, Greer F. Henderson, vice chairman-chief financial officer, and Christopher S. Ruisi, vice chairman-chief administrative officer. He will serve concurrently as president-chief executive officer of All American Life Insurance Company, a position he has held since April 1990 when he joined USLIFE Corporation.
 In making this announcement, Mr. Crosby commented: "We are pleased with the election of Mr. Simpson to lead our Life Insurance Division. His extensive experience and achievements should enable us to continue to build on our strong sales momentum."
 William A. Simpson has a 30-year career in the life insurance business. A native of Oakland, California, he graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1961. Following service in the U.S. Army from 1961 through 1964 and attaining the rank of captain, he entered the life insurance business in 1964 in Los Angeles, California.
 Following four years as a life insurance agent and, then, five years as an agency manager in San Jose, California with Occidental Life Insurance Company of California, Mr. Simpson served from 1973 through 1977 as sales vice president with Countrywide Life Insurance Company, an Occidental Life subsidiary. From 1977 through 1979, he was agency vice president at Occidental Life Insurance Company with total responsibility for national sales operations.
 In July 1979, Mr. Simpson joined Volunteer State Life Insurance Company in Chattanooga, Tennessee as executive vice president-chief marketing officer and a member of its board of directors. In May 1980, he was elected president and chief operating officer of Volunteer State Life Insurance Company, and in August of the same year he was elected chief executive officer of that company. While at Volunteer State Life, he attended the executive program in business administration at Columbia University School of Business.
 In January 1983, Mr. Simpson returned to Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company (formerly Occidental Life Insurance Company of California) in Los Angeles as executive vice president-individual insurance line and a member of its board of directors. In 1988 he was elected president-chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors of Transamerica Occidental Life and its affiliated life insurance companies.
 A chartered life underwriter, he is active in community affairs and has served as chairman of the Los Angeles Area Council-Boy Scouts of America, president of the board of councilors of the American Cancer Society, the board of trustees of the California Medical Center, and a member of the board of the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA).
 Mr. Simpson and his wife, Nancy, reside in La Canada, California. They have two daughters, Sharon and Shelley.
