USFreightways Welcomes New Director; Chicagoan Stephen Timbers Joins Board.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2002

Chicagoan Stephen B. Timbers has been named to the Board of Directors of USFreightways Corporation. "His experience within the investment industry adds new dimensions to our management and strategy capabilities," said Samuel K. Skinner, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, USFreightways Corporation, when making the announcement. "Stephen will be an additional asset to our Board of Directors at USFreightways, providing critical insight into fluctuating economic conditions," continued Mr. Skinner.

Mr. Timbers is President of Northern Trust Global Investments and a member of the Management Committee at The Northern Trust Corporation. In that capacity, he is responsible for all of the company's corporate investment businesses, which encompass investment products and services for both institutions and individuals.

With 30 years in the investment industry, Mr. Timbers' career encompasses a range of experience. He previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)
