Davis departed to become an assistant offensive line coach with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins' line coach is former USC assistant Hudson Houck, who was hired last month by head coach Nick Saban.

Davis is the fourth assistant to depart since USC defeated Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, joining quarterbacks coach Carl Smith (Jacksonville Jaguars assistant), defensive line coach Ed Orgeron (Mississippi head coach) and special-teams coordinator Dennis Slutak (Mississippi assistant).

If Chow leaves, it probably will enable USC coach Pete Carroll to make graduate assistant Ken Norton a full-time coach. Carroll could add Norton's position to the staff by combining the job of offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. The likely candidate for that position is Oakland Raiders assistant coach Steve Sarkisian, who spent three years (2001-03) coaching quarterbacks at USC.

USC receivers coach Lane Kiffin also would become more involved in the offense and could share some responsibilities with Sarkisian.

As if enough people haven't quit recently, director of football operations Mark Jackson is considering a job as an associate athletic director at Syracuse, where former USC associate athletic director Daryl Gross works as athletic director.
