USC TO INCREASE SEATING FOR STUDENTS SCHOOL WILL ADD 600 SEATS, OPEN GATES EARLIER AT FOOTBALL GAMES.

The USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  athletic department will increase student seating by 600 and open the student entrance 45 minutes earlier for future home football games in response to complaints from students trying to enter the Coliseum Coliseum: see Colosseum.  for Saturday's game against Nebraska, associate athletic director Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  Steve Lopes said Monday.

``It's like it was in everyone's mind that there were not enough seats,'' said Lesley Swanson, a senior majoring in history and communications. ``Everyone knew the number of seats had been reduced, so people panicked. There were times I worried I wasn't going to get out of there. It was unsafe, just a bad situation.''

USC reduced the number of seats reserved for students from 12,000 to 8,000 before the season, citing that records indicated no more than 7,500 students attended a game last season. Despite the reduction, USC sold 12,000 spirit cards, which students can use to enter most home games.

``I got out of line because I didn't feel like it was a safe place to be,'' said Caitlin Strauss, an executive officer for the student senate. ``People were pushing and shoving, so I just left and watched the game at (a campus bar).''

One student who spoke with the Daily News said she waited in line for more than two hours, got into the Coliseum and was stuck in a tunnel leading to the seats when security started shouting that there were no more available. She turned around and went home.

Lopes also said there are discussions to open a standing-room only area for an additional 400 students, and that the student entrance and area around it would be reorganized re·or·gan·ize

Swanson said she thinks that more security needs to be along the line instead of standing out in front.

``Once the gates opened, nobody was standing in the area where it kind of mushroomed,'' Swanson said.
