offensive line coach Pat Ruel Golden Pat Ruel (born December 5, 1950) is the offensive line coach for the USC Trojans.

Ruel has 32 years of college and NFL coaching experience.

He lettered at offensive guard for University of Miami and received his B.S.

``He's had the flu and it takes a lot out of you,'' USC coach Pete Carroll Peter C. Carroll (born September 15, 1951, in San Francisco, California) is the current head coach of the University of Southern California Trojans football team, having held that position since 2001.  said.

and offensive tackle Sam Baker, among others, so staying at a hotel is a precautionary measure.

``He'll be fine,'' Ruel said. ``He'll start.''

Even Carroll caught a virus, although he did not miss any practices or meetings. He did take a nap in his office Monday night before going home because he did not feel well.

Meanwhile, offensive guard Drew Radovich said he was ready to play despite a bone bruise on his foot. He is expected to start.

``It's a complete 180 from yesterday, the swelling's gone down, I'm completely fine,'' Radovich said.

Linebacker Rey Maualuga also practiced without problems despite a hairline fracture hairline fracture

in his wrist. He will probably wear a cast for the game.

Gable starts? It appears Chauncey Washington's sprained knee remains an issue after he was held out of practice.

``He'll be in the rotation,'' Carroll said.

It seems likely freshman C.J. Gable of Sylmar would start against Notre Dame, his first start since the season-opener against Arkansas.

``We're more sure about him being the lead guy,'' Carroll said, referring to Gable's 91yards against California.

Washington said he was not completely healthy but he's played with injuries all season.

``I've just got to wait patiently and let my body heal,'' he said. ``My body is used to getting banged up. If C.J. gets on a roll, obviously he'll stay in the game. If it's up to me, I want to play the whole game.''

Washington said he will probably return next season although he is not 100 percent certain.

Quick rise: Linebacker Thomas Williams, who moved to fullback a few weeks ago, is currently No. 1 on the depth chart.

USC disguise: Notre Dame safety Tom Zbikowski was asked about Irish coach Charlie Weis wearing a USC hat and playing the fight song during Sunday's team meeting.

``Usually you're a little tired and sore when you walk in Sunday,'' he said. ``When you have the opposing team's fight song blaring when you walk in, you start laughing. Saw coach with a USC hat on. ... I don't think he looks that good in whatever colors those are.''
