Kalil said he was anxious because he was so close to the goal line.

I was just so antsy.''

He also was a little stressed from the previous play, when Notre Dame fans stormed the field after the clock reached 0:00, only to have the officials correct the timekeeping error.

``There was a split second where my heart sank and I thought it might be over,'' Kalil said.

Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Matthew Perry and Christian Slater were among those in attendance. Jarrett said boxer Mike Tyson asked him about his 61-yard catch against Notre Dame on fourth-and-9.

``I don't like talking about football, I change the subject,'' Jarrett said. ``Everybody was asking about it. I love the game, but so many people and celebrities and fans came up to me. I guess I'd rather be known as the guy who caught the ball than the guy who dropped it.''

--Bing wins: Safety Darnell Bing will return kickoffs opposite Reggie Bush as the replacement for the injured Desmond Reed. Josh Pinkard, Will Harris and Rey Maualuga will be the gunners on the punt team. Pinkard is also expected to see action at cornerback, USC coach Pete Carroll said.

Carroll is impressed with Harris, who has not played in a game yet because of a sprained ankle.

``He's going to be involved in a lot of special teams,'' Carroll said.

Harris will also be on the kickoff team.

--History lesson: Although Washington has never defeated a No. 1-ranked team, the Huskies upset No. 2 USC and snapped the Trojans' 28-game unbeaten streak with a 20-10 victory in 1980.

Washington is 0-5 against USC when the Trojans are ranked No. 1. The Huskies also snapped USC's streak of 187 games without getting shut out with a 24-0 victory in 1983.

At the conclusion of that game, the Husky Stadium scoreboard proclaimed ``The Conquest is Over.''

--Important trip: Washington might be considered an unattractive game on the schedule, but it's critical for USC in terms of recruiting. Offensive lineman Steve Schilling of Bellevue, Wash., is considered one of the top linemen in the nation and lists USC among his favorites. He is expected to be at the game. And safety-wide receiver Taylor Mays of Seattle, listed as one of the top 10 players in the nation, already committed.
