In the latest twist regarding the transfer of former USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  wide receiver Jamere Holland, an appeal hearing was scheduled Wednesday for Sept. 29, which could jeopardize Holland's plans to attend Oregon.

A USC committee that does not consist of athletic department officials will hear Holland's request to transfer to Oregon, against the wishes of the athletic department, which opposes the wide receiver moving to a rival Pacific-10 Conference The Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) is a college athletic conference which operates in the western United States. USC also refused to grant Holland a release to Florida, but sources said Holland, a former Taft High of Woodland Hills star, wants to stay close to home. Holland also listed Oregon State and Washington as schools he would consider.

USC coach Pete Carroll Peter C. Carroll (born September 15, 1951, in San Francisco, California) is the current head coach of the University of Southern California Trojans football team, having held that position since 2001.  dismissed Holland from the team last week after the redshirt freshman already decided to transfer.

Spanos out: Starting center Matt Spanos will be out at least several weeks with a torn triceps triceps, any muscle having three heads, or points of attachment, but especially the triceps brachii at the back of the upper arm. He injured his right triceps, which is used for snapping.

Jeff Byers, rated the nation's top center during his senior year in high school, will switch from guard to center and be backed up by true freshman True freshman is a term used in NCAA sports, indicating that an athlete is playing the sport in his first year of college, rather than redshirting for one or more years to protect future college eligibility.  Kris O'Dowd. Alex Parsons, a defensive lineman three weeks ago until getting switched to offensive tackle, will now try to become the No. 3 center.

Nick Howell, the normal No. 3 center, injured his groin and is not expected to be available against Idaho.

"Everyone is on call to play at every position," USC coach Pete Carroll said about the line's injury woes.

Spanos injured his arm while trying to block nose tackle Sedrick Ellis.

"I've never seen anything like it," Carroll said. "We looked at the play 20 times because we couldn't tell where he got hurt."

There's some trepidation with Byers starting at center because he experienced problems snapping the ball as a freshman and was switched to guard.

"There were some problems when he was transitioning," Carroll said.

O'Dowd said he's ready to play against Idaho despite his lack of experience.

"Definitely, I'm excited," he said. "Who wouldn't be?"

O'Dowd also practiced at guard on Wednesday. Drew Radovich, expected to be the backup at right tackle, is expected to start at left guard, where Byers was originally supposed to start.

of dogs in the 1990's. McNair was not convicted of dogfighting but convicted in 1993 and 1996 for animal neglect.

"My situation is different (than former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick)," McNair said. "I wasn't involved in dogfighting. I don't condone that."

He paid nearly $25,000 in fines and performed eight hours community service for the 1996 conviction. The other conviction required a $600 fine and community service.

USC coach Pete Carroll said he was aware of the convictions and spoke to McNair about it.
