USC FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: FLORIDA STATE SOPHOMORE RECEIVER/DEFENSIVE BACK MIGHT TRANSFER TO USC.

Florida State wide receiver/defensive back Dominic Robinson visited USC's football practice Tuesday and is considering transferring to the school, according to sources.

Robinson, who is from Diamond Bar, is a sophomore and has two years of eligibility remaining but has not made a final decision. He is believed to be disenchanted with Florida State coach Bobby Bowden.

Robinson spoke after practice with USC wide receiver Mike Williams, who is from Florida.

``We just talked about football and chit-chatted,'' Williams said. ``The more (players), the merrier. I knew him from high school and how good he was.''

Robinson played wide receiver for the Seminoles last season and caught nine passes for 143 yards. He also returned punts.

--Special dinner: USC coach Pete Carroll held an awards dinner at Heritage Hall for the departing seniors Tuesday night, where he distributed the Pacific-10 Conference championship rings to the Trojans.

Among those who attended were former USC players Chris Claiborne (Detroit Lions), Willie McGinest (New England Patriots), Brian Kelly (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Frank Strong (San Francisco 49ers).

--Colbert hurt: Wide receiver Keary Colbert injured his hamstring and will not practice this week.

--Big day: NFL scouts and coaches descend on USC today to test seniors for next month's draft. Among those working out are quarterback Carson Palmer, tailback Justin Fargas, tailback Sultan McCullough and safety Troy Polamalu.

--Quarterback update: After reviewing every play of practice last week, offensive coordinator Norm Chow was tight-lipped about the quarterback race.

``I concluded nothing,'' Chow said. ``They're all playing well. No one's getting a chance to stand out and we'll continue that for another week.''

Carroll spoke to the quarterbacks before practice Tuesday and emphasized eliminating mistakes.

--Attention-getter: Sophomore Justin Wyatt, who took turns at wide receiver and tailback Tuesday, continues to draw praise from Carroll.

``He's been the biggest surprise. I didn't know he would look so flashy,'' Carroll said. ``We're working him hard and really like what he's doing on offense. He's so natural. He's making some noise out here.''

--Numbers game: Sophomore tackle Winston Justice wore No. 74 last season but has been awarded No. 71 by the coaches, the number worn by former offensive linemen Tony Boselli and Travis Claridge.

However, Justice asked to be given 74 back during spring practice, because he is recovering from shoulder surgery and not playing.
