and Nick Young were bitterly disappointed that USC did not qualify for the tournament. The Pac-10 changed the rules this year so that all 10 teams make the tournament.

``I'm real excited,'' Pruitt said. ``I didn't get a chance to play last year and I'm sure we'll make a good appearance.''

Young was also thrilled to make his conference tournament debut, especially after watching last year's games on TV.

``I've been talking about that since the beginning (of the season),'' Young said.

Pruitt struggled against Cal, making just three of 13 shots but said the Bay Area trip shook off some of the rust after he missed five games with a fractured knee.

``It helped me a lot and allowed me to get my feel back for the tournament,'' Pruitt said.

--Young OK: Young briefly left the game with a sprained right ankle but said it was not serious. Young got hurt when he stepped on a Cal student next to the court.

``I twisted it but once I got my momentum, it was OK,'' Young said. ``I just landed and tripped on somebody's feet.''
