BURBANK - USAir, a market leader in the California air wars, said last week it was reducing its daily intrastate service from 131 to 115 flights on Jan. 8.

Most of the abandoned flights will be on the Burbank-San Francisco route, the carrier reported.

Airline analysts said the cutbacks were not a surprise, considering the amount of competition and the rising price of fuel, which has cut into carriers' profit margins.
