USAIR PILOTS VOTE TO DISCUSS RECALL OF FURLOUGHEES

PITTSBURGH, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The pilots of USAir yesterday voted to authorize discussions with company management to recall furloughed pilots.
About 300 pilots were laid off from the airline in 1991. Some 5,400 USAir pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association were polled by mail to determine whether they would authorize discussions with the company management on terms to recall the furloughees. Of those voting, 58.4 percent authorized the discussions.
"We're heartened to see the spirit of unity among our group and the willingness to explore ways to help our furloughed members. Our negotiating team will initially pursue all avenues of recall with the company, while ensuring fairness to all pilots. Any results of these discussions will be taken to the entire membership for ratification," said Capt. Pete Gauthier, chairman of the USAir pilots Master Executive Council.
