USAIR PILOTS REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT ON NEW CONTRACT
WASHINGTON, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Capt. Armen Janzen, chairman of the USAir pilots union, announced today that the pilots and company management have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year labor contract.
The agreement will provide both short- and long-term cost-saving advantages to USAir, in exchange for enhanced job security and industry-level compensation, to be reached in stages over the duration of the contract.
The USAir pilot negotiating team secured an industry-level contract that will give USAir management considerable advantages in order to enhance its ability to make the corporation not only survive but prosper over the long term in the highly competitive airline market environment.
"With this new agreement in hand, the corporation should be positioned competitively to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities that will be opening up to USAir as commercial aviation expands both domestically and in the international markets. At the same time, pilots will receive job security guarantees and industry- competitive compensation," said Janzen, who is chairman of the USAir pilots' Master Executive Council (MEC), a unit of the Air Line Pilots Association.
Contract details will be presented to the USAir pilots' MEC next week for ratification.
