USAIR JOINS AMERICAN EXPRESS MEMBERSHIP MILES PROGRAM

 NEW YORK, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir (NYSE: U) and American Express (NYSE: AXP) today announced that USAir is joining the Membership Miles program, one of the world's leading travel rewards programs.
 American Express Cardmembers enrolled in the Membership Miles program and the USAir Frequent Traveler Program now can earn miles in both programs by flying USAir and paying with an American Express Card. Miles earned in the Membership Miles program can be redeemed for USAir Frequent Traveler rewards beginning Sept. 1, 1993.
 "We are delighted that USAir has decided to join the Membership Miles program," said Kenneth I. Chenault, president of the Consumer Card Group of American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. "Many of our Cardmembers are loyal USAir passengers. They appreciate USAir's outstanding service, and told us they wanted USAir to be a part of the Membership Miles program. We are very proud of this new partnership."
 Thomas Lagow, USAir's executive vice president-marketing, said, "This partnership is a natural fit for both companies. American Express Cardmembers are very much USAir customers, especially in the key business centers of New York, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and the state of Florida, where USAir is the largest airline."
 USAir flies to over 260 cities in the United States and Canada, as well as England, France, Germany, Bermuda, and the Bahamas. In addition, USAir's Frequent Traveler Program airline partners fly to hundreds of destinations worldwide.
 Redemption levels for flights with USAir start at 20,000 miles for economy travel within the continental United States. Free off-peak flights to Europe start at 40,000 miles.
 USAir joins Continental, Delta, Northwest and Southwest airlines in offering airline rewards to American Express Cardmembers.
 The Membership Miles program, launched two years ago as a rewards program for frequent business travelers, offers exceptional flexibility and choice in the way miles are earned and redeemed. Cardmembers can earn miles every time they charge with an enrolled American Express Card, and upon accruing 5,000 miles in the program, can convert them for:
 -- Airline travel on five airlines and their more than 20 frequent flyer affiliate carriers;
 -- Additional travel packages worldwide, including lodging and cruises;
 -- A changing roster of once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
 The Membership Miles program was recently voted best frequent traveler affinity card program by the readers of InsideFlyer Magazine.
 American Express Cardmembers in the United States can accrue miles with the Personal Card, Gold Card, Platinum Card(R), Optima(SM) Card small business Corporate Card and up to two Additional (supplemental) Cards per basic consumer Card account. Miles are held in the Cardmember's Membership Miles account until conversion.
 The Membership Miles program is free for the first year and $25 per year thereafter. There is no fee for Platinum Card members as long as they are enrolled in the program. To enroll in the Membership Miles program, American Express Cardmembers can call 1-800-AXP-MILE.
 American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of American Express Company, is a family of travel, financial and communications businesses.
