USAF views ASV for roads.

The Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) from Textron Marine & Land is under the microscope of the US Air Force to provide convoy and base protection duties. The US Army has deployed more than 425 ASVs to Iraq in support of convoy and combat missions, with Textron delivering 48 new vehicles each month. Convoy protection is a raising subject of interest (one which will be covered by Armada in issue 4/2007) due to the improvised explosive device threat, and has provided impetus for armoured vehicle manufacturers to up the ante in their designs and offerings of late. The ASV is a 4 x 4 featuring multiple layers of armour that provide protection against medium-calibre armour-piercing machine-gun rounds, large artillery projectile fragments and land mines. The light armour allows the a vehicle roll-on/roll-off capability with a C-130.
