After an injury-plagued career at UCLA, Roseby, 24, has blossomed this season after training with Western High coach Freddy Morrison. Roseby serves as an assistant coach at Western and runs with the boys in practice.

"If I can line up with these boys, I know I can run with any girl," said Roseby, the 2000 California state high school 100-meter champion.

"My first coach out of college didn't work out too well," Roseby said. "I didn't want to live my life saying that I never gave it 100 percent. I just never thought that this wouldn't work out. I have been through so much, this has to work out."

Roseby had planned to only run in a few indoor meets for conditioning to prepare for the outdoor season, but that changed after running the 60 in 7.20 in the altitude of Flagstaff Flagstaff, city (1990 pop. 45,857), seat of Coconino co., N Ariz., near the San Francisco Peaks; inc. 1894.
