US firm to build $44.8m facility at Qatar air base.

US-based Rizzani de Eccher has won a $44.8 million firm-fixed-price contract for the design and construction of a facility replacement at Al Udeid Air Base Al Udeid Air Base is a military base 25 miles west of Doha, Qatar. It houses coalition personnel and assets. It is the home of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing of the USAF.  in Qatar.

The company, which is a unit of Italian construction firm, Rizzani de Eccher expects to complete construction by December 30, 2010. The US Army Corps of Engineers' Transatlantic Programs Center in Winchester, VA received eight bids for the contract.

Al Udeid Air Base is a military base located west of Doha. It is host to a forward headquarters of US Central Command and home to No. 83 Expeditionary ex·pe·di·tion·ar·y

Its runway is the longest in the Persian Gulf Persian Gulf, arm of the Arabian Sea, 90,000 sq mi (233,100 sq km), between the Arabian peninsula and Iran, extending c.600 mi (970 km) from the Shatt al Arab delta to the Strait of Hormuz, which links it with the Gulf of Oman. . The facility's shelters can accommodate nearly 100 aircraft, more than needed by the Qatari Air Force, which has only a dozen fighters.
