US WaveLink and Bosch Telecom, Inc. Form Partnership for Advanced Broadband Showcase; New Broadband Technology to be Presented in Dallas.


DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 1997--Bosch Telecom, Inc. and US WaveLink Telecom, LP announced plans to create and manage an Advanced Broadbank Showcase for Local Multipoint Distribution Service LMDS is a broadband wireless access technology governed by the IEEE and is outlined by the 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee through the efforts of the IEEE 802.16.1 Task Group.

LMDS commonly operates on microwave frequencies across the 26GHz and 29GHz bands.
 (LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Service) A digital wireless transmission system that works in the 28 GHz range in the U.S. and 24-40 GHz overseas. It requires line of sight between transmitter and receiving antenna, which can be from one to four miles apart ) technology, consisting of an operational, end-to-end network to demonstrate new broadband services.

The Showcase will highlight advanced broadband services, incorporating Competitive Local Exchange Carrier telephony service, high-speed data services and multichannel video service, as well as providing the platform for other advanced digital services including tele-medicine and distance learning applications. This unique service package will be offered over a single infrastructure using Bosch Telecom's LMDS system.

The Showcase will demonstrate the advantages of using LMDS as the basis of a broadband network. Consumers, service providers, regulators, and investors will be able to experience the power of LMDS first-hand and see the operational and financial benefits of the integration of an LMDS system into existing networks. The Bosch LMDS system uses a single infrastructure to provide two-way, digital broadband access to the end-user which is flexible, scaleable, and fast to deploy.

Bosch Telecom and US WaveLink plan to expand participation in the Showcase to include, among others, other telecommunication companies, educational institutions, and even new media groups. Management responsibility for the Showcase system will be shared by Bosch Telecom and US WaveLink and these activities will be based at US WaveLink's headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
