Dr Pojasek: "I am really honored to be recognized by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable for my work in this very important area. The US toxics release inventory The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) is a publicly available database from the EPA that contains information on toxic chemical releases and other waste management activities reported annually by certain covered industry groups as well as federal facilities.  (2001 data) reported that approximately 25,000 industrial facilities released a little over 6 billion pounds of listed pollutants to the air, water and land. Clearly, we still have a long way to go."

"The reduction of production losses to the environment is fundamental to good business," said Dr. Pojasek. "Recycling and reuse isn't enough any more, we need to prevent pollution at its source through the use of cleaner production methods."

"By using quality management methods and tools, it is possible for employees to prepare formal action plans to change the process so that waste is eliminated at the source, which means you do not generate the toxic pollutants and other wastes in the first place. This bottom-up approach works well with the more traditional 'top-down' management approach."

Dr. Pojasek has been working in the field of pollution prevention since 1981; his experiences culminated in a publication for the US Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  entitled, "An Organizational Guide for Pollution Prevention." He has also written a book entitled, "Making the Business Case for Environment, Health and Safety" (BLR BLR Belarus
