US$86 million for energy projects.
Puerto Rico will soon receive US$85.9 million in federal funds
earmarked for energy related projects, said Resident Commissioner Pedro
Pierluisi, reports Caribbean Net News (March 13, 2009). Funds will
include US$48.8 million for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP,
support insulation, sealing leaks and modernizing air conditioning
equipment) and $37.08 million for the State Energy Program (SEP). The
WAP will allow an average investment of up to US$6,500 per home for
families earning up to US$44,000 a year. The SEP will be available for
rebates to consumers for home energy audits or other energy saving
improvements.
