URETHANE TECHNOLOGIES APPOINTS NATIONAL SALES MANAGER; PROVIDES UPDATE OF MICROCELLULAR, FLAT-FREE BICYCLE TIRE TECHNOLOGY IN ASIAN MARKET

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Urethane Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: UTEC) today announced it has named Don Artinger, a polyurethane and chemicals marketing professional with 27 years industry experience, national sales manager. He will be responsible for all domestic sales of the company's polyurethane technology systems and proprietary chemical compounds.
Artinger has worked since 1966 in sales, marketing and sales management of urethanes and chemicals for large companies -- including Miles Inc. (formerly Mobay), Olin Corp., and Flexible Products Inc. Most recently, he worked as an independent sales representative specializing in urethanes. Artinger, 49, holds a bachelors degree in chemistry from Thiel College.
Jim Orefice, chief operating officer, said, "Don is a true professional with the experience and industry knowledge we need to capitalize on the leading-edge polyurethane technology this company has spent years developing.
"Bringing Don in to fill the newly created national sales manager position marks the next stage in the evolution of our business strategy. While the company continues to aggressively commercialize its newer technologies, Don will seek to capture existing business in traditional industry applications. This strategy offers significant near-term revenue potential.
"In addition to our three primary product lines," Orefice said, "we are excited about the broader commercial application of our existing technology base. One of Don's immediate priorities is the development of our sales capability to provide the company direct access to other emerging markets."
Separately, Urethane Technologies provided an update on its microcellular, flat-free bicycle tire market in Asia.
-- The company said that shipment of its proprietary blended chemicals used to produce the bicycle to one unnamed Asian manufacturer did not begin in the third quarter as anticipated due to that company's production delays.
-- Discussions with Taiwan-based Fore Bettert?ernational Development to supply and support a bicycle tire production facility in the People's Republic of China are in their final stages.
-- The company's chemical supply letter of understanding with Wei Hei Yicklong Industrial Development Co. Ltd. (PRC) announced in July awaits finalization. Wei Hei has experienced equipment and plant preparation problems causing a delay. Urethane Technologies anticipates moving forward with the agreement as those issues are resolved by Wei Hei.
The company also said Orefice, chief operating officer, who is in charge of marketing and business development, will spend the next two weeks in Asia meeting with existing and potential customers. Orefice plans a follow-up visit through Asia later this year and is evaluating alternative business opportunities such as forming strategic alliances or joint ventures with select Asian manufacturers.
Urethane Technologies develops and markets proprietary polyurethane systems as well as production technology which the company licenses and sells to original equipment manufacturers. Applications now in commercialization include flat-free microcellular bicycle tires, integral skin flexible foams and cast elastomers. Applications in development include bathroom and kitchen fixtures, athletic shoe soles and shoe sole components, and composite polyurethane/rubber industrial tires.
