The leading property/casualty and life writers stayed on top but lost market share.

Property/casualty lines direct premiums written collectively rose 5% to $314.7 billion in 2000. Significant gains were recorded in workers' compensation workers' compensation, payment by employers for some part of the cost of injuries, or in some cases of occupational diseases, received by employees in the course of their work.  (8.4%) and group accident and health (11%).The largest line, private passenger auto liability, experienced a decrease of 0.2%.

State Farm Group continued to dominate the auto and homeowners lines in 2000, but a handful of competitors COMPETITORS, French law.
