UPSET PUTS HIGHLAND INTO TITLE CONTENTION BURNSIDE'S 3 TDS LIFT BULLDOGS IN WIN HIGHLAND 28, LANCASTER 14.

PALMDALE Palmdale, city (1990 pop. 68,842), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the irrigated Antelope Valley; a growing residential suburb of Los Angeles near Little Rock Creek where it forms Lake Palmdale Reservoir, inc. 1962.  -- Highland High of Palmdale's only previous wins were against winless teams, and the Bulldogs were coming off a game in which they fumbled seven times.

None of that seemed to matter after Friday's improbable 28-14 Golden League upset over Lancaster Lancaster, city, England

. The victory moves Highland (3-4, 3-0) into a first-place tie with Palmdale (6-1, 3-0).

Burnside rushed for 112 yards on nine carries and scored three touchdowns -- one rushing, one receiving, and another on an interception return.

Highland took an early lead when Lancaster was assessed four penalties on a disastrous opening drive that culminated in Burnside's 16-yard interception return.

Lancaster had a 75-yard pass from quarterback Tim Ennis to Jacob Jacob (jā`kəb), in the Bible, ancestor of the Hebrews, the younger of Isaac and Rebecca's twin sons; the older was Esau. In exchange for a bowl of lentil soup, Jacob obtained Esau's birthright and, with his mother's help, received the blessing  Potts that would set up a first- and-goal at the 10 called back for an illegal procedure call.

Highland quarterback Kevin Bevans had what Root called a ``breakthrough'' game, completing 7 of 10 attempts for 114 yards with onetouchdown and no interceptions.
