The win gave College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. Canyons saw nearly all of a 21-point lead disappear as Ayoob threw a pair of touchdown passes in the final 10 minutes. CCSF (11-1)drove deep into Canyons territory again in the final seconds, but Ayoob's final pass attempt was ruled out of bounds as the clock showed all zeros and COC's victory was secured.

During the game, CCSF was not only ranked No. 1 in both California and the nation, it had lost only two games in the last five years. It also had championship-game experience after beating Grossmont in 2003 and winning four state titles in the last five years.

Canyons, on the other hand, was looking to win its first state championship after losing to Reedley in its only other title game appearance in 2002.

``Our attitude was 'We're winning this game,' '' said Miles.

Canyons used some razzle-dazzle to take an early lead. A hook-and-lateral play from Tyrell Smith to Will Caldwell Will Caldwell was born 17.08.82, in Young, New South Wales .  so I just kept calling it,'' said Miles, who had gained 72 yards all season coming into the game.

Canyons extended its lead to 19-0 on another scoring pass from Miles to Lance - this one covered 26 yards late in the first quarter - and a one-yard sneak by Miles early in the second quarter.

Just before halftime, CCSF rallied to cut the lead to 19-11. A long drive ended with a short field goal, and Ayoob connected with Ruben Jackson on a 52-yard touchdown pass with 1:12 left in the half. CCSF seemed to have all the momentum.

In the second half, COC regained control with a quick five-play drive that was capped by a 14-yard touchdown run by Brandon Clayton. COC further extended its lead to 32-11 when Miles scored his second touchdown on 4-yard run.

CCSF answered with a 46-yard scoring pass from Ayoob to Jackson, who made a dazzling fingertip fin·ger·tip
