CANYON COUNTRY - A county sheriff's bomb squad lit the fuse on a ``Mission: Impossible III'' promotion Friday when it detonated a suspicious-looking device found inside a newsstand.

The device, found about 9 a.m. in a Los Angeles Times Los Angeles Times

But for sheriff's Deputy Tony Hawkins, the device he described as a red, rectangular box with openings that looked like speakers might have been more than it appeared.

The tenants watched anxiously from a gasoline station across the street while a sheriff's deputy in full explosives gear examined the newsstand.

``It's kids playing a joke, I hope,'' said Limha Song, owner of Canyon Cleaners, who was told to leave her shop. ``It's very scary these days. People are more crazy.''

Sheriff's deputies blasted the device twice.
