UOP Technology to Help Trinidad and Tobago's Petrotrin Produce Clean Burning, High Octane Gasoline; Technology to be installed at Petrotrin's Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.

:HON) company, announced it will provide key technology processes to Petrotrin, the national petroleum company of Trinidad and Tobago Trinidad and Tobago (trĭn`ĭdăd, təbā`gō), officially Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, republic (2005 est. pop. 1,088,000), 1,980 sq mi (5,129 sq km), West Indies. The capital is Port of Spain. , as part of the company's comprehensive three-year gasoline optimization program for its Pointe-a-Pierre refinery in South Trinidad.

The technology upgrade is part of Petrotrin's strategic plan of maintaining the position of the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery as the premier refining center in the Caribbean, supplying high-quality, clean fuels to the local, regional and international markets. Petrotrin, of Trinidad and Tobago, has launched a three-year gasoline optimization program that includes the construction or revamping of eight major plants, along with associated utilities and supporting units. UOP technology will be used at four of the eight plants.

UOP is a recognized leader in the development of technology and materials used by the global petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries. UOP has been an active designer and licensor of FCC technology since the early 1940s and has licensed more than 215 FCC units. More than 150 of these units are operating worldwide, and UOP has licensed 128 new FCC units since 1970.

UOP is also extensively involved in the revamping of existing FCC units. During the past 15 years, UOP's Engineering department has undertaken between 40 to 60 revamp projects or studies annually.

UOP TSS technology is operating in two units with another five in design and construction. There are more than 120 Penex units and 200 CCR Platforming units in operation today and more than 40 CCR Platforming units in design and construction.
