UO cross country teams sweep meet.

PORTLAND - Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott and Keara Sammons won the individual races to lead Oregon to a sweep of the Pier Park Preview cross country meet Friday.

Sammons won the 5,000-meter women's race in 17 minutes, 49.25 seconds to beat teammate Zoe Nelson (17:56.57) and Portland's Sarah Zerzan (18:24.28).

`It was great having Zoe out there to run with,' Sammons said. `Her expertise made me less nervous.'

The UO women's team beat the Portland `C' team 15-50 and Portland State 18-41, while Portland State won its women's matchup with Portland, 19-38.

The UO men's `B' team narrowly beat the Portland `B' squad 26-29 and beat Portland State 15-50, while Portland beat PSU PSU - power supply unit  15-50.

Kiptoo-Biwott, a sophomore transfer, won the 4-mile men's race in his Oregon debut in a time of 19:46.86 to beat Portland's Colin Longmuir (19:50.65) and Justin Houck (19:55.75).

`I've been waiting to put on an Oregon uniform for a while, so it was nice to finally get a chance to race and have it count,' Kiptoo-Biwott said.

UO volleyball team routs Fresno State

Oregon posted the greatest margin of victory in a game in program history on the way to sweeping Fresno State 30-9, 30-25, 30-24 in a nonconference volleyball match Friday at McArthur Court McArthur Court is a basketball arena located on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene. Karen Waddington had a team-high seven blocks in her first action of the season for the Ducks (6-0) after missing the first five matches with a toe sprain sprain, stretching or wrenching of the ligaments and tendons of a joint, often with rupture of the tissues but without dislocation. Sprains occur most commonly at the ankle, knee, or wrist joints, causing pain, swelling, and difficulty in moving the involved joint. .

`We have a lot of talent on this team and we're getting more consistent as we figure each other out,' Waddington said.

CORVALLIS - Kristin Murray and Rachel Rourke each had 17 kills to lead Oregon State (2-6) to a 19-30, 30-24, 30-24, 34-32 nonconference volleyball victory over San Diego State (4-4) on Friday.

Garbin leads UO women to season's first win

CORVALLIS - Nicole Garbin scored in the 53rd minute to lift Oregon to its first win of the season Friday, a 1-0 victory over New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E).  at the OSU Soccer Classic.

It was the 23rd career goal for Garbin.

The Ducks improved to 1-3 with the win over the Wildcats (1-2).

`We won by playing good soccer,' Oregon coach Tara Erickson said. `We did the things we worked on in practice all week and it clicked in the game.'

Jessie Chatfield made two saves in picking up her first shutout of the season.

Jodie Taylor had two goals and two assists to lead Oregon State (3-1-1) to a 4-0 victory over Iona (0-4-1) in the evening game.

OSU men's soccer improves to 4-1

CORVALLIS - Senior forward Robbie Findley had a goal and two assists to lead the Oregon State men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over UC Davis (2-3) at the OSU Zaher/Hensor Memorial on Friday.

Gonzaga (2-2-1) beat Xavier (1-3) in the first game, 3-0.

Freshman forward Justin Woodward scored his first collegiate goal and sophomore midfielder Josh Cameron also scored for the Beavers (4-1), who are off to their best start since beginning the 2002 season 4-1.

Brandon named to Oregon Sports Hall

PORTLAND - The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame honors Oregon athletes, teams, coaches, and others who have made a significant contribution to sports in Oregon. History and organization  announced Friday that former University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  point guard Terrell Brandon has been selected for induction.

The induction ceremony will be held Sept. 26 at the Multnomah Athletic Club The Multnomah Athletic Club is a private athletic club in Portland, Oregon, United States.

Founded in 1891, the club has expanded greatly from its beginnings. It now fills two buildings totaling 55,000 square feet, making it the largest indoor athletic club in the world.

The 1965-66 Oregon State men's basketball team, which finished one win away from the Final Four, was also selected. It will be the third Oregon State men's basketball team put into the state's athletic Hall of Fame, following the 1980-81 and 1948-49 squads.

The other inductees are Doug LeMear (broadcasting), Wayne Twitchell (baseball), Roy Love (coaching) and Judy Bochenski-Hoarfrost (table tennis).

 Myles has decided to withdraw from Oregon State to be closer to her family. Myles is from Chino Chino (chē`nō), city (1990 pop. 59,682), San Bernardino co., S Calif.; founded 1887, inc. 1910. It is the business and processing center of a diversified farming (notably dairying) area. , Calif.

"We wish Christen the best in her future endeavors," OSU women's basketball head coach LaVonda Wagner said.
