UO SPRING FOOTBALL OUTLOOK.

Byline: The Register-Guard

QUARTERBACKS

Returning starter Jason Fife Jason Fife is an American football quarterback in the National Football League for the New Orleans Saints.

Fife played college football at the University of Oregon and he played as a back-up to Joey Harrington until he declared for the 2002 NFL Draft and Fife became the
and Kellen Clemens Kellen Clemens (born June 6, 1983 in Burns, Oregon) is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the New York Jets of the National Football League. He was drafted originally by the Jets in the second round (49th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft.  go in as equals, with true freshman True freshman is a term used in NCAA sports, indicating that an athlete is playing the sport in his first year of college, rather than redshirting for one or more years to protect future college eligibility.  Johnny DuRocher listed third ahead of a couple of walk-ons after Scott Vossmeyer and Andy Collins Andy Collins may refer to:
  • Andy Collins (radio), an American radio personality
  • Andy Collins (television), a British television personality
  • Andy Collins (musician), an Australian musician
were moved to defense. The battle for the starting spot will obviously be a key to the spring, but it's likely nothing will definitely be decided until the fall.

RUNNING BACKS

The depth chart starts off listing the order as Ryan Shaw Ryan Shaw is a soul musician from Georgia, USA. Biography
Shaw began singing in Pentecostal church at the age of three, having been raised in a deeply religious household.
, Terrence Whitehead, Kenny Washington There are several notable persons named Kenny Washington, including:
  • Kenny Washington: an American football player
  • Kenny Washington: a jazz musician
  • Kanuri Qawi, whose birth name was Kenny Washington
and Chris Vincent, but there's likely to be daily fluctuation in that. Whitehead is the only one who's earned a letter, with three starts last fall. There's also an opening at fullback - for the spring - with Matt Floberg out after shoulder surgery. That leaves Luke Rowley and former linebacker Erik Cheney to show their blocking ability.

WIDE RECEIVERS

With Keenan Howry Keenan Rashaun Howry (born June 17, 1981) is an American football wide receiver who currently plays for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.  and Jason Willis Jason Willis (born July 26, 1980 in Los Angeles, California) is an American football wide receiver who is currently a free agent.. He played collegiately at the University of Oregon. While at Oregon, Willis played in 47 games totaling 93 catches for 1117 yards with two touchdowns.  gone and Samie Parker Samie Jabar Parker (born March 25, 1981 in Long Beach, California) is an National Football League wide receiver currently playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School.  splitting his time with track, it'll be an opportunity for reserves Keith Allen and Demetrius Williams Demetrius Terrell Williams (born March 28, 1983 in Concord, California) is an American football wide receiver, who currently plays for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. , JC transfer Kellen Taylor and true freshman Jordan Carey to make their bids, along with a handful of walk-ons.

TIGHT ENDS

Another spot where the job is open, with George Wrighster's early departure. Tim Day and Josh Rogers have certainly shown the ability to block, but the key for both will be their catching skills this spring. Also in the mix is JC transfer Eddie Whitaker, backup Nate LiaBraaten and Ryan Loftin, previously tried at linebacker and fullback.

OFFENSIVE LINE

With three-year starter Joey Forster out of contact after winter knee surgery, Adam Snyder will likely fill in at right guard, which means Robin Knebel becomes the left tackle as the usual game of musical chairs starts. The starting unit should be solid with those two along with senior center Dan Weaver and juniors Nick Steitz at left guard and Michael DeLaGrange at right tackle. The scholarship backups number only five in junior Josh Atkins, sophomore Ian Reynoso and a trio of redshirt freshmen, Jermaine Randolph, Enoka Lucas and Shawn Perkins.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Two likely starters, tackle Igor Olshansky and end Devan Long, will be held out of contact for medical reasons. That, along with the loss of end Roderkus Wright since last season thins the numbers, though two ends have been added, true freshman Victor Filipe and former tight end Darius Sanders, and there are three quality redshirts in former starter Quinn Dorsey, JC transfer Chris Solomona and freshman Matt Toeaina. Even minus Olshansky, the tackles are solid in Haloti Ngata, Junior Siavii and Robby Valenzuela.

LINEBACKERS

Two-year starter Kevin Mitchell holds down the inside spot, backed by two-year letterman Ramone Reed. At the middle spot, former Mitchell backup Jerry Matson is listed No. 1, and his backups are Justin Andrews coming back from a knee injury and Vossmeyer, the former quarterback. On the outside, David Martin made four starts last fall and is backed up by three redshirt freshmen, among them special teams standout Anthony Trucks and former quarterback Andy Collins.

SECONDARY

The cast is essentially the same, minus one starter, so the most impact might come from new position coach John Neal. Keith Lewis is set at one safety, with a proven backup in Stephen Clayton, and two-year letterman Marley Tucker takes over at rover, backed up by sophomores Justin Phinisee and Demetrius Spates. The starting corners remain Steven Moore and Aaron Gipson, backed up by Marques Marques may refer to:
  • marque, or brand name
  • Marqués, a surname
  • A Spanish form of Marquis.
  • ''Marques, a tall ship.
Binns, Charles Favroth and Sam Hughes.

SPECIALISTS

The Ducks couldn't be more set with kicker Jared Siegel and more uncertain at punter, where Siegel and walk-on freshmen Drew Larson and Chris Annis will fill in until a recruit arrives in August. Also needed to be found are returners, with freshman Carey definitely thought of as a possible replacement for Howry on punts and either Onterrio Smith or Allan Amundson on kickoffs.

CAPTION(S):

Haloti Ngata will return on Oregon's defensive line this year after a strong freshman season for the Ducks.
