Offensively, the line allowed sacks, running backs came up short, Dennis Dixon underthrew Jeremiah Johnson on what would have been a sure touchdown, and Jaison Williams had a bad drop. Defensively, the Ducks allowed Houston to convert third downs five times by running the ball. That's playing with fire. WHY OREGON WINS The Wolverines are still shocked after losing to Appalachian State, while Oregon is energized. Jonathan Stewart seems to play best in games against other top backs, like Michigan's Mike Hart. Nick Aliotti's defenses always perform well against traditional, run-oriented offenses. Think the '02 Fiesta Bowl, or Michigan in 2003. WHY MICHIGAN WINS The Ducks will be rattled by a trip to the Big House, and the Wolverines are focused solely on today. Oregon won't get through another game without a turnover, and a Dennis Dixon interception before 110,000 hostile fans spells trouble. While the UO defense locks up against the run, Chad Henne picks apart the Oregon secondary. BY THE NUMBERS 102,247 Attendance for the 1995 Rose Bowl, the biggest crowd to witness an Oregon game entering today. Listed capacity at Michigan Stadium is 107,501, and the all-time high is 112,118. 9-4 Mike Bellotti's record at Oregon in regular-season nonconference road games. Xs and Os WITH KEN WOODY Four seasons ago, the Duck defense `loaded up the box' and stifled Michigan running back Chris Perry, who had been averaging 183 yards per game. Perry got 26 and the Wolverines finished with minus-3 on 19 carries. The No. 3 Wolverines came into that game with their kicking game in disarray and suffered mightily, missing a PAT, having a punt blocked for a touchdown, giving up another touchdown on a punt return and blowing a fake punt play. It's pretty much the same situation today, except for the 109,000 fans screaming for the Wolverines. The defensive game plan? As in 2003, Oregon intends to overload against the run and force the Wolverines to the air. After a shaky performance against a dynamic Houston offense, the Ducks' front four and linebackers will take the full force of Michigan's offense. Quarterback Dennis Dixon will continue to make play calls at the line of scrimmage line of scrimmage n. pl. lines of scrimmage Football Either of two imaginary lines extending across the field parallel to the goal line at the ends of the ball as it rests prior to being snapped and at which each team lines up for , despite the noise. The Ducks have practiced spring and all fall with extremely loud (and irritating) crowd noise piped over Autzen's loudspeakers. You'll see Dixon set the team and then look to the sidelines, along with the rest of the offensive players; they're looking for Looking for In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Antithesis of in touch with. a possible change of play called down from offensive coordinator Chip Kelly in the press box. This enables the Ducks to have the best possible play set against a known defensive look. The UO offense should be able to score 34 points, and more if necessary. Talkin' football: "Loading the box" is defensive terminology for putting an extra defender on or just off the line of scrimmage to overload the defense against a running team, or when a rushing play is anticipated. The secondary, which is Oregon's defensive strength, will need to play great man-to-man defense because the usual help offered by linebackers in the short zones will be limited; they're thinking "run first." - Former Fox Sports football commentator Ken Woody played defensive back, receiver and kicker for Oregon from 1966-70 and coached college football for 18 years.
