LANCASTER -- Lancaster will soon open the region's first off-leash dog park.

Looking to accommodate dog lovers, the city is creating an off-leash dog area by fencing fencing, sport of dueling with foil, épée, and saber. Modern Fencing

``Hull Park is a well-used park,'' said Lyle Norton, the city's director of parks, recreation and arts. ``People use it to walk and exercise, and people like to bring their dogs.''

The city is spending about $20,000 to fence off the area and to install water fountains for both canines Canines

Initially, the city wanted to establish its first off-leash dog area at the planned Whit Carter Park, a 60-acre regional park that will be on Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling  near Avenue H-8. The development of Whit Carter Park will be done in phases, and the dog park is not in the planned first phase that the city wants to start within a year.

The dog area, however, is still in the plans for Whit Carter Park, but city officials have heard from some pet owners who think that park would be too remote.

The city is also looking at other possibilities for creating a dog area to accommodate eastside residents, Norton said.

The 10-acre Hull Park is named after Forrest E. Hull, a retired eye surgeon who served on the city's first City Council.
