UNIVERSITY TARGETS DAVSTAR'S CEN-SLIDE(R) FOR DRUG ABUSE

TESTING; $500 MILLION ANNUAL MARKET TO GROW $900 MILLION BY 1995
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Davstar Industries Ltd. (AMEX: DVS) announced today that the Center for Industrial Research Applications (CIRA) at West Virginia University has determined that Davstar's revolutionary Cen-Slide closed-loop urinalysis system will not only become the new standard for bacterial urinalysis but is also suitable for both manual and automated drug abuse tests, including portable automated field testing devices. According to CIRA, more than $500 million is expected to be spent in 1992 on drug abuse testing; that figure is projected to increase to $900 million annually by 1995.
The Cen-Slide system is the first major change in urinalysis in the past 100 years and, according to CIRA, is the safest system. AIDS and hepatitis B may be transmitted by contact with virus carrying blood-borne pathogens in urine. CIRA found the Cen-Slide to be the only system it researched that offered maximum protection against infection to laboratory technicians. The Cen-Slide system eliminates the necessity for the laboratory technician to ever come in contact with urine during testing.
CIRA stated that pre-coating the Cen-Slide with chemical additives should enable the Cen-Slide to be used with automated drug abuse testing equipment, where different chemicals cause particular drugs to form differing crystals either in solution or on the walls of the Cen-Slide which could then be identified. The Cen-Slide system should thereby be capable of performing both regular urinalysis and drug abuse tests.
CIRA stated further that, while the precise Cen-Slide coatings and drugs that could be tested for and the precision of drug abuse analysis using the Cen-Slide system require further investigation, everyone at CIRA is optimistic that a Cen-Slide drug abuse analysis system is feasible for use with automated field drug testing devices.
