Additional partners are Antelope Valley College and California State University, Bakersfield As of fall 2002, some 7,700 undergraduate and graduate students attended CSUB, at either the main campus in Bakersfield or the satellite campus, Antelope Valley Center in Lancaster, California of Los Angeles County. .

The center is on Division Street at Avenue I in the former Antelope Valley Fairgrounds' Challenger Hall. The city is getting ready to erect new laboratory buildings that will provide space for classes and specialized equipment necessary for upper-division mechanical and electrical engineering courses.

Limited lab classes such as mechatronics and electrical engineering advanced circuit analysis are being taught in temporary facilities.

The new facilities will be equipped with more than $1 million worth of equipment through an educational partnership agreement sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory and supported by Knowledgeworkers, a Colorado-based educational company.

The center was created to address a looming shortage of American engineers as the current generation of engineers retires, a concern to the aerospace and defense industry.

The Lancaster center lets Antelope Valley residents earn an engineering degree without commuting long distances and provides opportunities for work-study arrangements.

Information on the engineering programs, especially for students beginning their education at Antelope Valley College, can be obtained by calling Amie Steele at (661) 723-6429, Ext. 103.
