UNIVERSAL VOLTRONICS AWARDED $3.5 MILLION FOR HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEMS
MT. KISCO, N.Y., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Voltronics Corp. (AMEX: UVL) announced today that it has been awarded a $3.5 million contract by the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois to supply four high-voltage modulator systems. The three-year contract includes an option for one additional system.
Argonne National Laboratory is the site of the United States Department of Energy's (DOE's) Advanced Photon Source, a high-energy particle accelerator that will be used for chemistry, biology, medical, and superconductivity materials research. The Advanced Photon Source is expected to begin operation in 1996. Universal Voltronics' systems will be used to power the high-voltage microwave sources that replenish energy lost during the acceleration process.
"We are very pleased that the Argonne National Laboratory has selected Universal Voltronics to supply these modulator systems," said Barry Ressler, president of Universal Voltronics. "We have designed and delivered similar high-power systems for DOE-funded programs in support of fusion energy research and particle beam system development."
Universal Voltronics designs and manufactures high-voltage power conversion systems for scientific and energy research, industrial, medical, and defense applications. Universal Voltronics is a subsidiary of Thermedics Inc. (AMEX: TMD) and Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO).
