UNIVERSAL PICTURES SET TO RELEASE BRIAN DE PALMA'S
'RAISING CAIN' NATIONWIDE ON AUG. 7
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Pictures will open "Raising Cain," Brian De Palma's suspense thriller, nationwide on Aug. 7. Written and directed by De Palma and produced by Gale Anne Hurd, "Raising Cain" is a departure from the traditional suspense thriller, combining wry humor with shocks and thrillers.
A devilishly fun film, "Raising Cain" stars John Lithgow as a child psychologist who kidnaps his own daughter for mysterious motives and then masterminds a scheme to frame his wife's ex-lover for the crime. The film also stars Lolita Davidovich and Steven Bauer.
De Palma has entertained moviegoers for almost 20 years with his special brand of chilling suspense thrillers including "Carrie," "Obsession," "Dressed to Kill" and "Body Double." His other films include "The Untouchables," "Casualties of War," "The Bonfire of the Vanities" and "Scarface."
Hurd, the rule-breaking producer who carved out a career for herself in the male-dominated action-adventure genre, produced last summer's No. 1 box-office hit "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." Her other producing credits include its predecessor "The Terminator," "Aliens," "Alien Nation," "Tremors" and "The Abyss."
Lithgow, a two-time Oscar nominee ("The World According to Garp" and "Terms of Endearment") previously collaborated with De Palma on "Obsession" and "Blow Out." His other film credits include "At Play in the Fields of the Lord," "Harry and the Hendersons," "Memphis Belle" and "Ricochet."
Davidovich achieved overnight stardom opposite Paul Newman in the coveted title role in "Blaze," and went on to co-star with Andie MacDowell and John Malkovich in "The Object in Beauty." She recently starred in "The Inner Circle" and made a cameo appearance in "JFK."
Making his feature film debut in De Palma's "Scarface" for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Supporting Actor, Bauer's diverse credits include "Thief of Hearts," "Gleaming the Cube," "The Beast" and the television miniseries "Drug Wars: The Camarena Story."
