UNIVERSAL PICTURES DISTRIBUTION TO RESTRUCTURE

 Mark Gaines, Nick Carpou Promoted;
 Nikki Rocco to Acquire Expanded Responsibilities
 UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Pictures has restructured its national sales and distribution organization, granting additional responsibilities to Nikki Rocco, senior vice president of distribution and marketing, and promoting Mark Gaines and Nick Carpou to newly created positions as senior vice presidents/ national sales managers. The changes were announced by Fred Mound, president of distribution for Universal Pictures.
 In a related move, Albert Quaedvlieg has been promoted to vice president/division manager from his former position of vice president/metropolitan manager. Together with vice president/division managers Jack Finn and Dave Richoux, Quaedvlieg will report directly to Gaines and Carpou.
 "Given the tremendous challenge posed by our outstanding slate of films for 1994, we felt that this was an ideal opportunity to expand the duties of these key individuals," said Mound. "I have, as always, the greatest confidence in Nikki Rocco, Mark Gaines, Nick Carpou, Albert Quaedvlieg and all the members of Universal's first-rate distribution team."
 Mark Gaines joined Universal in 1976, beginning as a booker in the Atlanta branch office. After serving in the Jacksonville and New Orleans offices, he became branch manager of the Dallas office in 1988. In 1990 he came to Los Angeles as vice president/division manager at the home office.
 Nick Carpou began his career with Universal in 1982 as a booker and later sales manager in the Seattle and Portland branch offices. He was posted to the Los Angeles branch office in 1989 and was made a vice president/division manager at the home office in 1990.
 Rocco, who will continue to coordinate activities between Universal's marketing and distribution divisions, has been given responsibility for the following areas: sales administration, branch operations, exhibitor relations and national accounting. She will continue to report directly to Mound and Perry Katz, executive vice president of Marketing for Universal Pictures.
 Rocco joined the Universal sales department in New York in 1967. She was promoted to assistant to the general sales manager in 1981 before being named vice president of Distribution in 1984. In 1990 she was promoted to senior vice president of Distribution/Marketing Liaison.
 Quaedvlieg took his first job at Universal as a messenger in 1953. From 1958 to 1961 he was a booker in the New York exchange and was promoted to office manager in Buffalo in 1961. In 1972 he became a branch manager. He was named vice president/regional sales manager in 1980. Two years later he became New York metropolitan manager.
