UNITY DAY AT GOLDEN VALLEY CELEBRATES AREA'S DIVERSITY.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- Golden Valley High School will host its second annual Unity Day, a multicultural, family-oriented festival to celebrate the Santa Clarita Valley's growing diversity.

``Uniting People in a Changing World'' is the theme of the event, planned for 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on campus, 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway, Santa Clarita.

Expanding on last year's effort, an art show and a juried art contest will be held along with a poetry and essay contest focusing on the theme ``Uniting People in a Changing World.''

Carnival Games is a video game for Nintendo's Wii console. It is published by Global Star Software, which is a division of Take-Two Interactive.

Unity Day was created last year to support the ever-growing diversity in the local population, said Golden Valley Principal Jacque Snyder.

``As we explore the cultural diversity of our school community, we are seeking ways to increase community awareness and appreciation and involve our students in modeling positive and respectful interaction with peers and adults throughout the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. ,'' Snyder said.

Last year's event drew 600 people. Unity Day was planned by local school and college officials, the city of Santa Clarita and some nonprofit groups.
