UNITED TO EXPAND SERVICE FROM LAX.

 starting Wednesday as part of a campaign to boost the airline's West Coast commuter business.

, said in a written statement the expansion will solidify the airline's strength at LAX. About 23 percent of all passengers flying out of LAX last year flew United, according to the Los Angeles Department of Airports.

A company spokeswoman said the airline hopes fliers who use the local carrier trips will stay within the United system when booking cross-country or trans-Atlantic flights.

No ticket discounts are being offered in conjunction with the expanded schedule, the spokeswoman said.
