UNITED STATES SURGICAL ISSUES CURRENT LAPAROSCOPIC MARKET SHARE DATA
 NORWALK, Conn., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Leon C. Hirsch, chairman, United States Surgical Corporation (NYSE: USS), announced today that the latest domestic market share numbers for laparoscopic products show the company continues to maintain its position of dominance.
 For all disposable laparoscopic products, USSC's market share is 86 percent to Johnson & Johnson Ethicon's 14 percent. For all laparoscopic products, which include reusable operative instruments, reusable trocars and disposables in both categories, USSC's market share is 79.7 percent, Ethicon's is 13 percent and reusable devices have dropped to 7.3 percent of all sales.
 United States Surgical Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer and marketer of surgical staplers, the leader in the growing field of minimally invasive surgery and a recent entrant into the suture market.
