UNITED OFFICERS JOIN EMPLOYEES ON FRONT LINES DURING
 'CUSTOMER DAY' THURSDAY
CHICAGO, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines officers will get a firsthand look at the company's front-line operations when they work a full shift alongside public-contact employees at airports and on flights worldwide during "Customer Day" on Thursday, July 30.
Led by President and Chief Operating Officer J.C. Pope, United officers will dispense with their normal duties in order to work with public-contact employees such as customer service representatives, pilots, skycaps and air freight representatives. In addition to interacting with customers, they will attend staff briefings, visit station control centers and have breakfast or lunch with employees.
"The best way to understand a service business like ours is to get as close to the customer as possible, and that means spending time at the front lines of our operation," Pope said. "And there is no better time than right now, in the heart of the summer vacation season, when we are routinely flying more than 200,000 customers a day."
"Customer Day" is just one of several ways United officers are becoming more involved in the service aspect of United's operation. Recently, a number of officers participated in the airline's "Day in the Life of a Travel Agent" program to gain a better understanding of issues relating to travel agents and United's sales employees. And many officers are calling and writing disserviced customers.
Airports where United officers will spend a day include: Auckland, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago O'Hare, Columbus, Denver, Honolulu, Houston Hobby, London Heathrow, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, Milwaukee, Newark, New York Kennedy, New York LaGuardia, Omaha, Orlando, Osaka, Philadelphia, Portland (Maine), San Diego, San Jose (Costa Rica), Seattle, Tokyo, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington Dulles and Washington National.
