UNITED MERIDIAN CORPORATION FILES FOR INITIAL PUBLIC OFFERING

 HOUSTON, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- United Meridian Corporation (UMC) announced today the filing on May 28, 1993, of a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, relating to the initial public offering of 7,900,000 shares of its common stock, at a proposed offering price of $16 to $18 per share.
 Of the shares being offered, 4,400,000 are being offered by the company and 3,500,000 are being offered by selling stockholders. Merrill Lynch & Co., Goldman, Sachs & Co., and Howard, Weil, Labouisse, Friedrichs Incorporated are managing the offering.
 UMC is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company headquartered in Houston. The company has been actively engaged in reserve acquisition and exploration and development drilling since its formation in 1987. The company previously announced on May 3, 1993 the completion of a major acquisition of oil and natural gas reserves in the United States and Canada through the purchase of Norfolk Holdings Inc. for $110 million. UMC's current operations are focused in the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent, Appalachian and Montana regions in the U.S. and in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan in Canada. Additionally, the company plans to initiate exploratory drilling operations later in 1993 offshore West Africa.
