 FLIGHTS TO BRAZIL, ARGENTINA TO BEGIN JAN. 31
 CHICAGO, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines announced today it will launch service to Caracas, Venezuela, and Port of Spain, Trinidad, Jan. 15, 1992, and to Brazil and Argentina Jan. 31, 1992, implementing emergency authority granted the carrier by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
 "We are pleased to extend the United Airlines route system to these important international destinations in Latin America," said Stephen M. Wolf, chairman and president. "Our more than 80,000 employees look forward to providing customers on these routes with the same high level of service they are accustomed to receiving on our Atlantic and Pacific flights."
 United's schedule linking New York's Kennedy International Airport and Miami International Airport with Caracas, Venezuela, and Port of Spain, Trinidad, will be as follows:
 Flight 871 will depart from New York Kennedy at 5 p.m. and arrive in Caracas at 10:45 p.m., departing from Caracas at 11:45 p.m., and arriving at Port of Spain at 1 a.m. Flight 870 will depart from Port of Spain at 6:45 a.m. and arrive at Caracas at 8 a.m., depart from Caracas at 9:30 a.m., and arrive at New York Kennedy at 1:20 p.m.
 The Miami-Caracas flight will depart at 6:40 p.m. and arrive in Caracas at 10:55 p.m. The Caracas-Miami flight will depart at 9 a.m. and arrive in Miami at 11:25 a.m.
 The routes linking New York, Miami, Caracas and Port of Spain will be operated in Boeing 757 aircraft.
 United's New York-Brazil-Argentina schedule will be as follows:
 Flight 987 will depart from New York Kennedy at 9:30 p.m. and arrive in Rio de Janeiro at 9:45 a.m. the following day, depart from Rio de Janeiro at 11:30 a.m., and arrive in Buenos Aires at 2:40 p.m. Flight 988 will depart from Buenos Aires at 7:25 p.m. and arrive in Rio de Janeiro at 10:15 p.m., depart from Rio de Janeiro at 11:30 p.m., and arrive at New York Kennedy at 6 a.m. the following day.
 These New York-Brazil-Argentina flights will be operated in Boeing 747 equipment.
 United's Miami-Brazil schedule will be as follows:
 Flight 991 will depart from Miami at 11:05 p.m. and arrive in Rio de Janeiro at 10:10 a.m. the following day, depart from Rio de Janeiro at 11:30 a.m., and arrive in Sao Paulo at 12:45 p.m. Flight 990 will depart from Sao Paulo at 9:15 p.m., arrive at Rio de Janeiro at 10:15 p.m., depart from Rio de Janeiro at 11:59 p.m. and arrive in Miami at 5:10 a.m. the following day.
 These flights will be operated in Boeing 747 equipment.
 The flights from both New York Kennedy and Miami to Brazil will be timed to allow passengers to connect with one another in Rio de Janeiro. Thus, United will provide daily service from both New York and Miami to Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.
 On Dec. 9, United acquired Pan American World Airways' Latin American operations plus other assets for $135 million through an auction conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York. An announcement on plans to start service on these additional routes must await approval of the acquisition by the U.S. government.
