UNITED AIRLINES TO LINK NEW YORK-TOKYO-SYDNEY WITH NEW SERVICE
CHICAGO, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines will link three major markets on three continents with flights between New York (Newark) and Sydney, Australia, via Tokyo, beginning Oct. 26, 1992. The flights are subject to government approvals.
"We have long indicated our desire to link our North Pacific and South Pacific route networks via our Tokyo hub," said United Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stephen M. Wolf. "This new route connecting New York, Tokyo and Sydney will accomplish just that."
United's New York-Tokyo-Sydney service will originate and terminate at Newark International Airport, which serves the greater New York area. The airline currently operates daily Boeing 747 service between Newark and Tokyo. As part of the new service, the flights from Newark will continue on to Sydney on Mondays and Wednesdays. They will return from Sydney to Tokyo on Wednesdays and Fridays.
United also operates daily Boeing 747 service between New York's Kennedy Airport and Tokyo, for a total of 14 weekly United flights between the greater New York area and Tokyo.
The new service opens for sale today.
