UNITED AIRLINES MARCH TRAFFIC INCREASES 17.4 PERCENT

 CHICAGO, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines (NYSE: UAL) today reported that its total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 17.4 percent while available seat miles (ASMs) grew by 15.0 percent in March compared with the same month of 1992. The scheduled passenger load factor was 66.1 percent compared with 64.7 percent a year ago.
 ``Our domestic and Atlantic traffic was relatively strong last month, reflecting in part the reduced prices versus a year ago,'' said J.C. Pope, president and chief operating officer.
 ``Our Pacific operations, however, continue to be impacted by the weak traffic and yield in Japanese markets.''
 The airline's total scheduled RPMs were 8,148,918,000 compared with 6,939,893,000 in March 1992.
 For March, domestic revenue passenger miles totaled 5,219,428,000, an increase of 16.4 percent from 4,483,681,000 accumulated in March a year ago. Pacific revenue passenger miles totaled 1,821,496,000, an increase of 8.5 percent from 1,678,310,000 a year ago. Atlantic revenue passenger miles totaled 729,544,000, an increase of 20.4 percent from 606,151,000 a year ago. Latin American revenue passenger miles totaled 378,450,000, an increase of 120.3 percent from 171,751,000.
 Total scheduled available seat miles (ASMs) were 12,327,820,000, up 15.0 percent from 10,718,047,000 a year ago. Domestic ASMs were 8,142,169,000, an increase of 13.0 percent from 7,207,346,000 a year ago. Pacific ASMs totaled 2,534,584,000, up 10.0 percent from 2,303,784,000 a year ago.
 Atlantic ASMs totaled 935,076,000, up 8.2 percent from 863,865,000. Latin ASMs totaled 715,991,000, an increase of 108.7 percent from 343,052,000 a year ago.
 The airline flew 5,831,000 passengers in scheduled service in March, an increase of 15.4 percent from 5,053,000 flown a year earlier.
 Total cargo ton miles for March were 168,296,000, up 21.1 percent from 138,925,000 a year ago.
 Total RPMs including charter flights for March were 8,167,997,000, up 17.4 percent from 6,956,137,000 a year ago.
 Year to Date Traffic
 For the first three months, total scheduled RPMs increased 17.3 percent to 22,389,586 from 19,081,848 in 1992.
 Total system ASMs increased 12.2 percent to 35,155,172,000 from 31,321,908,000 for the same period last year.
 Passenger load factor year to date was 63.7 percent, up 2.8 points from 60.9 percent in 1992.
 Total cargo ton miles were 442,581,000 year to date, an increase of 16.5 percent from 379,989,000 last year.
 Total RPMs including charter for the year to date were 22,442,906,000, an increase of 17.3 percent from 19,140,376,000 in 1992.
