UNISYS RECEIVES $57 MILLION CONTRACT FOR STANDARD NAVY COMPUTERS

MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys announced today that its Government Systems Group has been awarded a fixed-price requirements contract by the U.S. Navy for follow-on production of standard computers for AN/UYK-43. With a potential value of $57 million, the contract covers a two-year ordering period for up to 200 computers. Included in the contract are training courses and associated support services for design agent, program engineering support, field engineering services and software engineering support.
Unisys has produced and delivered UYK-43 standard 32-bit shipboard tactical computers to the U.S. Navy for more than 10 years. This requirements contract is the direct successor to a two-year competitive contract awarded in 1991.
"This contract win allows us to continue the concept of an Open Systems Module approach, which we first introduced two years ago," said Dennis A. Christ, vice president and general manager of Unisys Electronic Systems division in Eagan, Minn., the operating unit responsible for managing the UYK-43 program. "While we are devoting energy toward dual-use and conversion initiatives, we will continue to provide innovative solutions and quality products to our existing defense customers. Open Systems will directly influence the life expectancy of the UYK-43 and underscores our sustained and proven ability to provide the U.S. Navy with improved standard military equipment that is consistent with, and supportive of, past Navy software investments."
Based in McLean, the Unisys Government Systems Group provides services and solutions to defense agencies and other federal government agencies in the United States, Canada and nations worldwide, and to selected U.S. public sector organizations.
