UNISYS 8-WAY NT SERVER ACHIEVES WORLD RECORD FOR EXCHANGE SERVER PERFORMANCE.

Unisys Corp. bragged last week that its e-@ction Enterprise Server ES5085R supports the highest amount of Microsoft Exchange electronic mail traffic ever measured on any server.

The ES5085R, which achieved an Exchange MAPI Messaging Benchmark (MMB) of 32,700, was equipped with eight 550-MHz Intel Pentium III Xeon processors with 2 Mbytes of Level 2 cache, as well as Unisys Enterprise Software Suite (ess) valued-added technology.

The Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Messaging Benchmark is the standard method of measuring a system's performance in a Microsoft Exchange software environment. It represents mail traffic from a typical corporate e-mail user, including common daily mail tasks such as send, browse, read and forward, as well as scheduling tasks and distribution list usage.

"This is one more in a series of tests proving that Microsoft technology on Unisys Intel-based servers can match the performance of UNIX/RISC environments at the high end of the enterprise for a fraction of the price," says Don Johnson, general manager of the Enterprise Server Business at Unisys Computer Systems. "We are in the midst of a fundamental shift in the economics of large-scale enterprise computing.
