UNILAB ANNOUNCES THAT ANDREW BAKER ASSUMES FULL TIME
ROLE AS CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
NEW YORK, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- UNILAB Corporation (NASDAQ: ULAB) announced today that Andrew H. Baker has assumed full time responsibilities as chairman and chief executive officer at Unilab, and has resigned his positions at several subsidiaries of Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW).
Baker commented that he "was pleased Corning is allowing him to pursue a full time commitment to focus on Unilab's opportunities in the western United States." Corning, through its MetPath subsidiary, is the majority shareholder of Unilab. Baker added that he hopes to move the company's corporate headquarters to the Los Angeles area by the end of the year.
Baker has been president of Corning Lab Services, Inc. (CLSI), the laboratory services subsidiary of Corning Incorporated. MetPath is one of the country's largest clinical laboratory companies.
 E. Martin Gibson, chairman of Corning Lab Services, remarked that "while we are disappointed to be losing someone of such high quality, CLSI has a major investment in Unilab and we are delighted that Andrew Baker will devote his substantial talents to the full time management of Unilab."
Unilab also announced that Richard A. Michaelson, who has been a vice president for the company, has joined Unilab in a full time capacity as vice president and treasurer, and has resigned his positions within Corning's laboratory service subsidiaries. Baker commented that "I am excited about joining with Richard Michaelson, as well as with James Lawrence who assumed responsibility for the company's California operations this past spring. I look forward to working full time with them to seize the opportunities which Unilab is facing, and realize the potential that this company has in a very exciting and dynamic industry."
