UNIKIX TECHNOLOGIES BRINGS ITS CICS OLTP MONITOR TO POWERPC BASED SMP UNIX PLATFORMS; UniKix Software Offers Mainframe Customers Migration Path To Client/Server on IBM SMP RS/6000 and Bull Escala Servers.

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 3, 1995--UniKix Technologies announced today immediate availability of UniKix 4.1, the industry's leading CICS (Customer Information Control System) A TP monitor from IBM that was originally developed to provide transaction processing for IBM mainframes. It controls the interaction between applications and users and lets programmers develop screen displays without  OLTP (OnLine Transaction Processing) See transaction processing and OLCP.

monitor, for IBM's SMP (Symmetric MultiProcessing) A multiprocessing architecture in which multiple CPUs, residing in one cabinet, share the same memory. SMP systems provide scalability. As business increases, additional CPUs can be added to absorb the increased transaction volume.  RS/6000 and Bull Escala symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) family of PowerPC servers. Today's announcement makes it possible for companies to migrate legacy mainframe CICS OLTP applications to PowerPC-based SMP UNIX servers and gain significant computing advantages in scalability and openness.

SMP PowerPC technology, jointly developed by Bull, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  and Motorola, delivers an unsurpassed level of computing power with superior scalability. Utilizing multi-processor configurations, SMP PowerPC systems provide high performance transaction processing Updating the appropriate database records as soon as a transaction (order, payment, etc.) is entered into the computer. It may also imply that confirmations are sent at the same time.

ways to lower the cost of running CICS applications. We have a backlog of orders for both the IBM and Bull Escala platforms. This shows how anxious CICS customers are to rehost CICS applications to SMP PowerPC servers and we are happy to be the first vendor to offer this capability."
