UNICO AMERICAN'S INSURANCE SUBSIDIARY COMMENCES BUSINESS IN WASHINGTON

 WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Unico American Corporation (NASDAQ: UNAM) today announced that Crusader Insurance Company, Unico's property and casualty insurance subsidiary, has commenced insurance operations in the state of Washington.
 Edwin Cheldin, chairman and chief executive officer, stated, "We are excited and pleased to be able to offer our property and casualty insurance packages and services to businesses in the state of Washington. Crusader Insurance Company has been underwriting property and casualty policies for businesses in California since 1985. This action is in line with our goal of expanding our marketing efforts through both geographic expansion and new product line introductions."
 In further business development news, Unico American announced that its subsidiary, American Association for Quality Health Care, is now offering individual health plans to Californians. These plans are provided by Amerimed (a Century Medicorp Co.) and offer similar benefits which in the past were only available to members of groups. "We have received very positive response to this program from our customers. This product is one that has been in demand for some time," said Cheldin.
 Unico American Corporation is an insurance holding company that provides property, casualty, health and life insurance and related premium financing through its wholly owned subsidiaries.
