UNICCO Donates $25,000 to Mayor's Office of New Bostonians; Grant supports English for New Bostonians program...


BOSTON -- The City of Boston, Mayor Thomas M. Menino's MONB MONB Mayor's Office of New Bostonians
MONB Mission Oaks National Bank (Bonsall, CA) 
 (Mayor's Office of New Bostonians) is the recipient of a $25,000 donation from UNICCO UNICCO United Nimba Citizen's Council  Service Company, based in Newton, Mass. The grant, which specifically supports the English for New Bostonians (ENB) program, represents the company's minimum donation for 2006.

ENB is a public-private-community partnership that was launched in 2001 by the MONB to help low-income immigrants learn English. In its first phase it helped bring English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL ESOL English for Speakers of Other Languages

) classes to 700 additional individuals per year. Now, in its second phase (June 2005-June 2008), its goal has been raised to bring ESOL access to a minimum of 1,000 additional participants per year.

"Diversity is one of Boston's greatest strengths and it is essential for recent immigrants to engage in economic and social opportunities," commented Mayor Menino. "The public-private-community nature of the ENB program relies on companies, such as UNICCO, to be key participants in this initiative. This donation is greatly appreciated and will help us reach our aggressive goals."
