It seems suspect Abran Guidino, 31, rode along with acquaintance Patrick Keating to buy cigarettes at a small market in Canyon Country. Keating apparently needed more than a smoke - he snatched a pack of boxers and tried to leave without paying, sheriff's deputies said.

A store employee followed Keating out of Bill's Place and demanded that the undies be returned. Keating fought him off, but the employee held on and was dragged by Keating's green Ford Escort Over the years, the name 'Ford Escort' has been used for several models.

to a remote home in Agua Dulce, sheriff's deputies earned a bonus - Guidino, found in a ravine behind the house, admitted to using a nearby cave as a hide-out since the machete attack, said sheriff's Detective Scott Gibson.

``The machete guy was hiding out after the attack. He said he had found a cave and was hiding out in that cave,'' Gibson said. ``He actually went with the underwear guy to the market to get cigarettes. He was just a passenger in the car.''

Guidino was wanted in an attack Tuesday on Michael Pletz, a man with whom he had argued earlier in the day, Gibson said. Witnesses said Guidino pulled a long knife and slashed Pletz, who hospital officials told Gibson was fortunate to have a ``hard head.''

``He had a 6- or 7-inch slash in his head,'' Gibson said of Pletz. ``He's still being monitored at the hospital, but it looks like he's going to be OK.''

Guidino is due to be arraigned Monday on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon Assault with a Deadly Weapon is the term used to describe the act of threatening to harm one or more people by using a weapon (usually a firearm).
