In late March, UN scrutiny of our legal system took a new turn as the United Nations Human Rights Commission (presently chaired by Libya) opened an inquiry into the case of Lionel Tate Lionel Alexander Tate[1] (born January 30, 1987) was convicted of first-degree murder for battering a 6-year-old playmate, Tiffany Eunick, to death on July 28, 1999, a crime for which he was sentenced to life imprisonment without chance of parole in Florida Department , a 16-year-old serving a life sentence without parole for beating to death a six-year-old girl named Tiffany Eunick.

Lionel's mother was babysitting Tiffany in the family's Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, home at the time of the murder. Although Lionel was only 12, he was nearly 6 feet tall and weighed 166 pounds. Tiffany weighed 48 pounds. Lionel's mother, a Florida State Trooper, was sleeping at the time of the incident. She awoke to find that Tiffany was having difficulty breathing. The child died at an emergency room shortly thereafter.

. Lionel was arrested and charged as an adult with first degree murder. His defense team argued that the youngster had killed the tiny girl while ignorantly mimicking pro wrestling moves he had seen on television, but this defense didn't win over the jury. Once found guilty of first degree murder, Lionel was given the mandatory sentence.
